After reading a post about filter media by mhossom back in the early part of June, I was reminded of an article I had read about how to properly set up a Eheim filter with media.
Evidently there is more to it than just tossing a little of this and a bunch of that into your filter. Anyway I stumble across a link for the same article I remember reading some years ago.
Check it out , if you have a Eheim you might need to redo your filter so it runs more efficiently

Some of us don't do all-in-one container filtration anymore, so canister loading is highly specialized for me at least.
i have always been a bit of a multi-filter nut anyway, but part of that is because i like better water quality than an all-in-one unit can offer with standard upkeep. The classics are my favorite external canister, but I use all of mine for bio-filtration only with prefilters . Most mechanical is handled elsewhere.
Plus I use all 'permanent' media, which lets media such as Ehfisubstart out for me. .
