2.5G nano heaters ?

Post by jcali10 »

I've decided to get the Red Sea Deco Art Nano Filter from Big Al's (not ordered yet) but I was wondering if the Hydor 7.5 w Mini Heater would be a good idea? It's one that can be placed under the substrate, and does not appear to be adjustable. Or if I should just pass on the heater. I may want to put a few male endlers or shrimp in the tank later.

I dont like undersubtrate heaters personally..

heat rises and I just worry that it would pull nutrients up into the water column or something..

I figure the temperature of the water would stay about the same as the house temperate, low 70's. That should work for most plants, fish, and RCS I would think.

Pass on the heater. The low 70s is what you should shoot for anyhow. The lights will bring the temp up a few degrees during the day anyhow. :)

you can also get the filter at petco, about the same price if you don't feel like waiting for delivery

Yeah, may as well just stop at the petco, it's about 5 minutes from my work.

Joe,
If you haven't picked up your nano filter I have a slightly used one. I'm using the Hydor heater in my tank because the room it's in gets cool at night in the winter. I've found that the water temp. drops soon after the lights go off. I unplug the heater during the other seasons

I already bought a filter from a local Petco. I have a 10 gallon running in my basement without a heater and the water stays around 72 degrees. I'm not sure if the plants like it. They are not doing so well. Not sure if it's the light, (2) 14 watt daylight CFLs or the cooler water temperature.
