SAE? Flying Fox? False SAE?

Post by gyl »

Hi Friends,

I purchased, what I thought at the time an "SAE" from Tropical Lagoon in Silver Spring the other week. Steve, the owner doesn't usually steer me wrong when it comes to these things. However, after a couple glances of my SAE in the tank, I am not so sure. I know the basic things you are supposed to look for i.e. coloration of the fin, and coloration of the black line that runs through the body to the fin. Can you help me confirm if this is an SAE, False SAE or FF?

Thanks!

Looks like a true sae to me, but I wouldn't consider myself an expert. Is it eating any algae?

The first pic, which appears more focused, especially looks like an SAE. How far the black line goes to the back to the caudal fin looks right, also the color and the scales. I'm far from an expert though.

Agreed, I'm no expert, but I do know the black line through the tail fin means true SAE.

Great! Thanks. It is eating algae and also the other stuff I feed my fish. For people who own SAEs, do they usually chase your other fish around?

Mine chased things around until it jumped out of the tank one night.
They have a tendency to do both.

I found the little guy dried up on the floor this morning :( . He actually jumped quite the distance. I was impressed!
