any killie experts here who can ID this fish?

Post by PadreJP »

I was at Scales over the weekend and picked up a pair of killies they had in one of their tanks on the back wall. They had them labeled simply as "Striped Killies" which don't really help much. (I did a fair amount of Google searching for "Striped Killiefish" and only found one species, which is mostly silver & black and doesn't look at all like what I have.)

SO...anyone have an idea on what this is? I'm guessing it's some species of Fundulopanchax but a quick browse through some online killie galleries hasn't netted me a match yet.

P.S. -- I got both a male and a female so with any luck, I'll have some fry to bring to a meeting a month or two from now. :D

Don't know, but know a guy that would. Larry Tagrin from PVAS breeds out tons of killies. Will send him the pics in the next few days.

Thanks Dave, I'd appreciate that greatly! I have a few other pics (almost as good as the one above) if that would help. I also have one (so-so) pic of the female, though she looks to me just like most killie females look...body a silveryish color with just a slight pinkish or purplish hue and a little speckling of color.

Aphyosemion striatum.

I have a bunch. They usually show up at the PVAS auction.

Concur on Eugen's ID. Had a trio myself before the move.

Cool, thanks. Makes me figure probably someone locally who breeds them sold them to Scales. :)

Keep a tight cover on their tank.

You never know what you're going to find, or where you're going to find it. So keep looking.
