In the 20 years my 30 has been up and running, I've never seen any of these things. Maybe it's because I do have fish in there, but you'd think I'd see one once in a while.

Ok, so they're not shrimp. I hope to see some of those soon enough.

Who can I stock the tank with that will eat these beasties yet leave the shrimp alone? Or, how can I keep feeding the shrimp without supplying a meal for these critters? They may be harmless, but they're an eyesore. I squish any snail I see, but these things are way too small.

Finally, should I expect these in the nano?

You can put small fish in there, they may pick off a few of the babies but will leave adults alone. Small rasboras, ect...

Harlequin Rasbora are probably small enough not to both the shrimp. That is what I have in with mine at the moment. The fish show no interest in the shrimp.

Put some endler fry in there for a coupla weeks, then pull em.

I can pretty much say at this point that any fish will hunt newborn shrimp, sooo... colony can outbreed it, but expect to lose a lot of the babies.

you aren't going to get smaller than pygmy spotted rasbora and formosa, and they still try for the shrimp - H. Rasbora do in my tank when they find them on the glass, too, just don't hunt the moss like endlers did.

My agassizii cories totally ignore all the tiny shrimp around them. I don't know if they would eat the other critters though.

Did a massive water change last night, trying to siphon off the bottom as best as possible without disturbing the substrate. Also wiped down the glass with a sponge. Number of critter sightings way down this morning, though they might be hiding. Will go shopping for something small, interesting, and hungry this weekend.

What's people's opinion on killies?

Make sure you have the top fully enclosed or you will find them crispy on the floor.

Killies are likely to eat the shrimp as well.

Man, I feel like Ziggy here.

What can I get that:
1) will eat the critters
2) will fit in a 5..5 comfortably
3) isn't something I have traditionally had in my other tank (e.g., small tetras/rasboras)

A school of male Endlers are a nice sight. Or another livebearer, like Heterandria formosa?
