Anyone keep lyretail killies?
Anyone keep lyretail killies?
Does anyone here keep gold lyretail killies - aphyosemion australe? I'm thinking about adding a few to my big tank. Neighbors would be a school of Espey's rasboras, a couple of rummynoses and a (still hanging in there) crew of adult amanos. Ph is 6.5, water temp is 73.

I have the orange killies... don't ask me to remember their real name but I'm pretty sure it was australe also. They are neat and don't bother anyone. There are a couple of killi breeders in PVAS that have really nice stock if you want to buy local.

I gather they are jumpers, which would be a problem for me and my open tanks. Was that your experience?

All of my tanks are open top. And all of my killies are accounted for. Arlene has them too in an open tank and to my knowledge she hasn't lost any either. HTH!

Speak for yourself Jen. My male committed suicide after a couple of months in my tank

Re: Anyone keep lyretail killies?
oops. Sorry! I will say that they are active... the male is constantly chasing around his girlfriend. I can see how if they were startled in the process by another fish or something else that they might jump. But isn't that the case with lots of fish we keep?

Re: Anyone keep lyretail killies?
I've never kept Lyretail's but I did keep Fp. gardneri and if I remember correctly they are all jumpers, puddle jumpers. I could be having a senior moment but I thought their specialty was living in evaporating pools that they leap from one to another pool.
Sincerely,
Tim
