Please excuse the bad picture, it really looks much much better in person.... <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0">
Light: Hight light. 3 WPG +
Growth: Slow
Demands: Difficult. High light, CO2, sandy substrate, seems to respond very well to targeted root fertilization.
Pruning: Good job if you get this far!
Water hardness: I have fairly soft water, 3dGH.
Planting/Prop: You can divide mother plant at the base of the rosette. Its sometimes tricky to keep new "buds" planted, break off a little chunk, insert the entire clump 1/2" or so into the substrate. Don't keep it buried long as it will die, but slowly tug on it over a two week peroid until the crown is above the substrate line.
Experiences: Difficult plant. Tried in Flourite substrate amended with Flourish root tabs, did well for 1-2 months then melted. Plant in picture is being grown in a substrate which has 1/4"-1/2" layer of Ferti-Plant Plus mixed with some peat capped with 2.5-3" of Eco-Complete. Not sure if the Ferti-plant or Eco-Complete is supplying the needed juice, but I do think its a heavy root feeder. A good challenge once you've figured out the basics....
Cheers,
Jeff
