What algae is this and how do I KILL IT

Post by sns26 »

This is in my main tank and, for scale, that is a small anubias leaf.

It got started under high light and fertz. Since then I backed off the light and the fertz. Its growth has slowed but I can't seem to get rid of the existing stuff--it isn't growing on new plant growth, but it is pretty tenacious on the old growth.

Will excel kill the stuff?Image

Remove all the leaves that have it. You can try an experiment on some of it outside of your tank. I'd try excel in one cup and H2O2 in a second cup and see which one does a better job.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

If you've got bait, I've got wasabi!

I wish I could be like Mr. Sarcastic when I grow up! ;)

I have it too. Amamo shrimp will eat it if you put enough of them in the tank. I have gotten it out of one tank, but it stubbornly stays in the other tank. It likes to get in the bolbitis. Im at the point where i am considering tearing down the tank.

For what it's worth, I seem to have dealt with most of the issues by turning off the fertilizers. That means my hairgrass is moribund but I think it's a fair trade given how much I've been traveling.

staghorn, typically due to high organics/dirty tank , ammonia increase. Clean tank, remove what you can , spot treat with H202 or excel.
