Native Collecting

Post by Aaron »

Cavan and I found quite the cache of native species growing along the shores of the resovoir down the street from my house. Perhaps there will be some interested parties wanting to go collecting after the meeting here in September. The two coolest plants we found were Rotala ramosior (our only native Rotala) and Polygonum sagittatum.

If I make the meeting I would be interested in going on a field trip.....might help to bring some clippers or machete to avoid having you attacked by the aggressive thorn bush while we journey deeper into the Tridelphia Jungle. Looks like a great place and am looking forward to the trip.

Sounds good Rob, though a machete probably isn't necessary. The idea is to tread lightly on nature and take only a few of each species we find. Tall rubber boots are your best weapon where we'll be going. :)

I was kidding Aaron.....just didnt want to have you bleed out on us from the killer thornbush. I will have to dig out the army wet weather boots.
Thanks

I figured you were, but you never know.

Truth be told we did do some weed wacking, but we tried to keep it to thorns that nobody likes anyway. 8)

Some other things to consider bringing would be fish bags (any plastic bag will do) and a cooler to keep the plants in.
