riccia attachment

I am having a hard time with keeping my riccia attached. I am using mesh over a piece of driftwood. After it grows for a while it becomes further detached with the original growth dying underneath. Should it be trimmed to keep it short?

Yes, you've deduced the problem well. Trim it reguarly to avoid the die-off you are experiencing and it should stay in place better.
