Echinodorus aflame

Post by dougrm3 »

Hello,
Have a seller on Aquarium net who I have bought from in the past and has some Echinodorus aflame.
Reading online it looks as if this sword plant grows green but under very high light will send out purple to almost black leaves.

Is there anyone in the club who is growing this plant? I’m picking one up and looking for information.

Is there a name for “you have to collect all the plants you see or read about?” I think I may need intervention

I have one growing in a flask. I know that's not helpful, but the leaves are so dark purple they are almost black. Very impressive.

When I get done with 400-500 other projects, I'm going to try to tissue culture/propagate it.

I used to have that in my 90g. It was so black, I couldn't tell whether it was still alive, LOL! They should have called it "a-char" or "a-burnt" rather than "aflame".

I don't have it any more, but I can't remember if that's because I sold it, or because it actually died. It was weird, though.
