Amano + blackout treatment for hair algae

Post by seiji64 »

I have a non-co2 10g shrimp tank that has been struggling with a hair algae explosion for months now.

Viktor was kind enough to pick up some Amano shrimp for me in January. I added the Amanos and waited to see if they had an impact. After a week or 2 I was seeing some results, but not as quickly as I wanted. So I added a 7 day blackout to the mix. That combo appears to have done the trick!

I want to use a blackout to kill bladderwort. I realize I might kill the other plants in the tank too, but there isn't really anything else in this tank. How many weeks to you think it would take?

Hmmm, 7 day black out seems to have done the trick! Cool that your plants survived, though perhaps that's not surprising -- how often do we have 7 cloudy days in a row?
