I've had good experiences buying plants from eBay, and from http://www.aquariumplants.com. (I'm not affliated with either).
As far as aquarium center goes, they have a great selection of plants, and the prices are quite good as well. I tend to only buy online if there's something exotic that I can't find locally. Note, if Glen Burnie is closer to you, House of Tropicals has a decent selection of plants, but if you're looking for harder-to-find plants locally, AC is a better bet.

IMO, House of Tropicals is the pits.
Even after they have renovated, theyre plants are scattered, browning, at the bottom of the shelves, and w/o price tags. As for Cust Svc .. well, you would get a better answer from a brick. And that was jsut 2 weeks ago.
Take the time to drive to AC, definately a better bet !
Just my 2 cents.

Well, it really depends what you're going for. In terms of service, I've never experienced what you have described at House of Tropics. Obviously, just like at AC, you need to look for certain people to get a knowledgable person, other than your summer help. Additionally, I've bought browned/yellowed plants from both places. It's bound to happen, as the conditions for these plants are often-times sub-par. But, it's standard procedure to buy plants, bring them home, have them shead leaves, and then 2 weeks later, you have a lush beautiful plant with new growth. This is especially true for mail-order plants!
I also recommend the trip to Aquarium Center. Find out when Gloria is working. She's the resident plant lady and super nice to talk to. They get their plant orders on thursdays so I'd go sometime shortly thereafter to find the best selection.
As for online places my only experience has been trading with fellow enthusiasts. Most of the people over at plantedtank.net are great.
