crypt affinis - how tall?

Post by chris_todd »

Will crypt affinis grow vertically, or will its leaves lay down? Is this growing pattern affected by aquarium conditions (e.g., CO2, light, ferts, etc.) or growing conditions (emersed v. submersed)?

I ask because I'm wondering about the suitability of c. affinis as a foreground/midground plant in a 75g tank. The pictures on Jan's website seem to show a mix of "tall" plants (relatively long stems, e.g.: http://www.xs4all.nl/~crypts/Cryptocory ... x_1053.jpg) and "short" plants (short stems, with leaves that lay down, e.g.: http://www.xs4all.nl/~crypts/Cryptocory ... M_1621.jpg).

Just curious about GWAPA members' personal experience with this interesting crypt.

I had it in the 50 (may still be there, the tank needs another Val prune) and it grew to the top of the tank and curled.

If I can find it in the 50 I may move it over to the 55 and see how it does.
