cleaning ich off plants?

Post by meichler »

We had some plants in our quarantine tank, likely from some glass cats bought at PetSmart. I cleaned out the tank entirely, substrate and all, and turned into a hospital tank. The tank had some good plants in it that I don't want to toss. Is there a good and reliable way to ensure that I can put them in a tank with fish without carrying over the ich. I know all about the ich lifecycle but it's really hard to be confident that the plants are ich-free since it's such a pain to treat. Thoughts?

You can leave the plants in a tank (with light) for 2 weeks with no fish. With no fish the ich will die off. I'm not sure you can ever completely get rid of it, but happy, healthy fish can deal a small amount.
