Does anybody in the club have Ludwigia palustris sp. 'Red' (or whichever Ludwigia it is) from Tom Barr?

The plant:
I'm getting obsessed with it , but 'in life' it might not look as pretty as in pictures... Would be great to take a look at a live specimen before continuing to salivate over it .
Ludwigia palustris sp. 'Red'
Re: Ludwigia palustris sp. 'Red'
I have some I got from an auction, I think it was from Julie but it is not from Tom Barr. It gets very red but not in my tank, but it was very red when I bought it. The leaf shape etc. looks a little different than what I have, Rotala macrandra 'Japan red'
I can make it red and unfortunately it's one of the easiest colors to tweek and leave the background looking normal.

Speaking of plants, what are good places to buy plants on-line?
So far, I know of:
- aquariumplants.com
- Bobs Tropical Plants
- freshwateraquariumplants.com
- old trusty Dr. Foster&Smith
A wholesaler(?): floridaaquatic.com - did anybody try buying from them retail?

That's exactly what I'm talking about .150EH wrote:I have some I got from an auction, I think it was from Julie but it is not from Tom Barr. Here is the best place, put up you list! You've been spoiled already and the plants you get from Aquarium plants .com are going to look poor compared to GWAPA and you'll pay much more, don't buy from Bob's at all folks have been having problems with no refunds, and the last two are questionable, Florida Aquatic are wholesale only.
I honestly think you are better off here and TPT for plants, put up a WTB thread with your list and ask for photos from sellers you don't know.
I think Tom is honest but some of the red thread photos are tweeked in a mine is reder than yours type of mentality.

Tim, I believe what you've bought/shown is Rotala macrandra 'Japan Red'.
Andrey, I have the Ludwigia palustris 'Red', as do several other members. Remind me closer to the meeting, and I'll bring some for you.

I'm totally in for the advantage of having an opportunity to get plants from the club members if available. But (i) I would like to start with a heavily planted tank (meaning lots of specimens of the same species in most cases; that's why, for example, I was grabbing all Anubias at the last meeting ), and (ii) I would like to be able to bring something new to the club, so as not be a burden only .150EH wrote:Here is the best place, put up you list! Yes, it's a very pretty plant. What's interesting is that L. palustris is in just about every pond in our area and is a great plant, but not nearly as red as this variety.andreyka wrote:krisw wrote:Tim, I believe what you've bought/shown is Rotala macrandra 'Japan Red'.
