Pond plants for small pond?

Post by sns26 »

I have a small whiskey-barrel pond in the backyard. Last year it got completely overrun with some bladderwort thing that I picked up at a GWAPA auction. I mean completely--it was basically a solid mass of that threadlike garbage. I probably should have heeded the advice on the bag "do not put this in an aquarium." God, what a mess.

Anyway, I nuked the pond last weekend when the weather was nice. All I have left is a nice hardy lily that has done well every year. Can anyone recommend (or trade me) some other interesting plants for such a small space? I'd especially like something cold-tolerant that can overwinter, and/or something that will flower. The location is sunny and I use a small solar powered pump for circulation.

You could try one of the Nyphaea species and it will throw up a nice flower. Also, ask Kris, he has a small brick pond that has some nice plants in it!

Sam;

I've got several different aquatic Iris, Ludwigia peploides, Narrow leaf cattail, Nymph. 'James Brydon', Nymph. 'Indiana', and parrot feather, I can divide for you. They're winter hardy here in PA so you should be good to go.

Pics should be in some of my older posts from earlier years.

Cheers.

Unfortunately no. I'll be orchidizing at Longwood Gardens that weekend. I can either bring in april, or if you're in a hurry I can try to bring them to work and meet you somewhere.

Cheers.
