Hygrophila pinnatifida growth pattern?

Post by Jim Miller »

What is the typical "natural" growth pattern and dimension of h.pinnatifida? I checked Kasselmann last night and this specie isn't listed.

I realize there is some variability due to light etc but what are folks seeing and what sort of light are you using?

Mine appears to be staying quite low (3-4") but spreading laterally. I think I should move it to at least midground from its background location as a result.

Thanks

Jim, that's correct. H. pinnatifida is more of a midground plant. Occasionally, a shoot may decide to grow vertically, but the majority seems to grow horizontally via runners for me.

Thanks, just relocated it midground.

I was afraid I bought too many plants yesterday. No way. It's a complete madhouse in the tank but I like the look a lot better than before.

I'll no doubt have to move things around to have it make more sense. But I was lacking the fine leaved plants and the rotalas etc look great.

Critters are having a major party checking everything out.

Once the tank was filled I dosed Excel and macros. I'll hit it with micros tomorrow.

Everything that was attached to a rock (java fern, anubias, bolbitis) got moved to the little planter thingy we got yesterday. I'll just keep their roots/rhizomes in liquid while their leaves are emersed until I put them back in next weekend.
