Oxygen supersaturates in water at about 12 ppm or so and CO2 supersaturates at a much higher level.

If you are not using pressurized CO2, then bubbling the tank will allow the tank to remain at equilibrium with the atmosphere during the day. This is a better situation than the plants using up the available CO2 and having nothing to work with.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking it was, but didn't have the wherewithal to articulate, like you just did.

I'm also thinking the extra oxygen helps bacteria that feed on fish wastes. I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking at least some species of de-nitrifying bacteria are not anaerobes, correct?
