Crypt affinis flowering?

Post by Cristy Keister »

My Crypt affinis has really taken off in the last couple of months. It's leaves are huge! Just noticed that it has two stalks with big pods at the top. I've never had a crypt flower in a tank. I'm too excited to wait to find out what will happen. :D

That's Barclaya longifolia. Still cool though! The pods should soon open up and scatter seeds everywhere! And they then germinate. You'll never get rid of it! :)

That happened to me once. Long after the mother plant was gone.. maybe even months later, all the sudden Barclayas started sprouting up everywhere. I didn't even know I had had a flower spike. It's kinda fun.

I've had Elatine do this too. Lose or toss your plants and when conditions are right, it starts back growing from nowhere.

So much for Google research. I planted C. affinis and Barclaya right next to each other, but one didn't make it. After looking at Google photos I thought this was the crypt. Plus, the Barclaya I planted was all red. This plant is green on one side, red on the other, like the C. affinis I bought at Aquafest last year. Oh well. Barclaya seeds anyone?
