Where to buy plants?

Post by plantgirlkim »

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask where I should go to buy some plants? I was comtemplating buying it online but school got hectic and I never got around to it.

The tank is set up with only water and I'm planting HC this weekend. It's a 125 gal so I'm looking for a lot of fast growing stems to help prevent algae.

Does Scales carry a good selection of plants? What other LFS would you recommend for a wide selection of plants in the DC area.

Thanks all!

Kim

ps. this is the first pic of the tank. I will post more as I try to get this tank further along

Firstly, the wood arrangement that you have going looks great! It'll be great to see how this shapes up once plants are in there.

As far as the best place to get a wide variety of plants, that is no doubt from a GWAPA meeting. If you can make it up to Columbia, MD in 2 weeks, you'll find more variety than you'll ever find in a fish store. Scales has a decent selection of plants that generally sell well, plus a few oddballs here and there. You won't find a lot of the new and "hot" plants that folks are bantering about on APC, but you could stock your tank.

Probably the ideal situation is if you can catch another GWAPA member when they're trimming their tanks. Every couple of weeks, I'll compost at least 2 liters of perfectly good plant cuttings. Anyone trimming this weekend?

Good wood arangement! I'd loose those pebbles though.
Use the GWAPA porous mossy rock :D

Plantwise - Kris is right on the money. A GWAPA meeting will be your best bet -
variety and price cannot be beat. Or if a member is trimming.

Kim

I will probably have some stems this weekend and am in Herndon. Send me a PM so we can work something out as I plan on going to the CCA meeting on Saturday and the all day PVAS auction on Sunday.

Thanks
Rob

Kim,

Ghazanfar has a few hundred pounds of the rocks available for GWAPA members. I believe the price is $0.50 / lb.
