It is good.... but don't get carried away, as it becomes pure snobbery. The simple fact is the latin adopted in binomial nomenclature is written, not spoken. There is no correct way of prounouncing things, some folks really just like to put others down. A good number of names are derived from Greek roots, how are these to be handled? With Latinized pronounciation?? Nah...
If the other person knows what you're talking about, you've done your part. I have a book by a very serious ichythologist who advocates using common names in speech, as they are more easily understood by native speakers and not subject to constant revision...
Where's my Pellia...? Cichlidsoma..??? Get my drift?
I have an older TAG issue where another Latin guru insists, Cryptocoryne = CRIPT-TOE-CORE-RYE-NEE. Maybe these guys should sit down together, as they are both "experts" <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0">
Now, writing an article/tech document is a different story, always include the most current scientific name is parens if you use common names to aid research. Sorry, a pet peeve of mine... I'll figure out what you're talking about, don't worry... I just think a lot of new people get nervous about this stuff when meeting a "guru", as they don't want to sound "stupid" but nothing could be further from the truth...

I completely agree with Jeff. This is what I was trying to tell you yesterday, Ghazanfar. There are gurus all over the place and each one will be correct in their own closed mind.
Writing correctly, yes - I'm up for it.
Pronouncing correctly, no - too much resistance.
Wait until you go to AGA and show off you proper Latin. You will have at least 5 guys jumping on your back and tell you that it is incorrect.
