New for 2012!!
Hello Members!! It's a new year and we, your loyal elected officials, have started out the gate running!
Yesterday was our annual board meeting and we accomplished a lot...look for the complete meeting schedule with *most* topics nailed down to be posted within the week, two additional field trip dates, another joint meeting with our friends at ACLC, some revisions and clarification early on for the aquascaping contest, the addition of some new committees and smoother meetings/auctions. We really want to work hard for you all to make GWAPA even better. Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the survey, your candid answers were helpful and did not fall on deaf ears!! And thank you to all of you for making GWAPA such a fantastic club. It truly is the members who make an organization, and we certainly have a great thing here!!
All that being said, if you haven't already please renew your membership for 2012! It can be done right from the main website by clicking on "join now" to the right of the page.
Next, we would like to announce the new committees. If you have any interest in helping we would love to have you! In addition to the Food Committee that has worked out splendidly this past year we would like to officially add a Group Buy Committee to suggest, organize, and handle group buys for the club; an Outreach Committee to take on community outreach and maintaining the outward "face" of GWAPA through outlets such as our facebook page; and our Plant Talk Committee (which will be led by Cavan Allen) to spearhead our new meeting initiative of starting with a brief 5-10 minute genus or species talk at the beginning of every meeting. These new committees will allow us to grow as an organization as well as enable more members to be involved with the workings of the club. As always, if anyone has any additional suggestions feel free to bring them up to me or any other board member.
So look for bigger and better things this year as we grow and learn! And thanks again to each and every one of you!!

Re: New for 2012!!
The schedule for this year has been updated. Notice the three guest speakers we will have!
We need volunteers for tank tours. If you don't feel like hosting a monthly meeting, this is your chance to show off your tanks!
Also, if you have a DIY project that you are willing to share, please let the board know as we need more presenters for the October meeting.

Glad to see 2012's schedule is posted.
For the DIY, I can explain my simple drain refill system. No computer programming skills required.

In case you missed it, we've added bios for three of our speakers in 2012: Karen Randall, Jason Baliban, and Joshua Wiegert:

Also, we are still looking for tank tour volunteers in August, and DIY workshop topic recommendations in October.
Finally, please consider joining one of the committees Jen mentioned earlier in this thread, and let her or someone else on the board know if you're interested in volunteering some time on those committees.
