Food for March meeting

Post by chris_todd »

I'm going to be out of town on vacation for a while, and likely won't have email or Internet access until I get back on the Monday before the meeting. So I figured I would go ahead and start this thread as a placeholder for March meeting food discussions.

Note that GWAPA now owns enough cups, paper plates, and napkins to last us until the apocolypse, or at least the rest of the 2010 meetings, whichever comes first. We also have about 1/2 dozen 2 liter bottles of soda, courtesy of a donation from Viktor.

I suspect once we know the location of the meeting, we'll be able to better plan the menu.

Chris, the location of the March meeting is at a church in Bowie, MD. It is a large hall, with plenty of tables/chairs. There's even a full kitchen, although, I would need to check with the church for any use above and beyond a microwave...

Would someone like to make a batch of cookies or brownies?

Would someone like to purchase or make something to dip veggies into (e.g. hummus, ranch dip, something like that)?

Right now, the menu looks like it will have a veggie tray, vegetarian/vegan chili (like we made for the meeting at our house last summer), and one other crock pot dish (exact recipe to be determined, but probably meatatarian), as well as cookies and/or brownies.

Any other comments/thoughts/suggestions for the menu?

Anyone who agrees to make or purchase something, keep your receipts so GWAPA can reimburse you.

I can bring a dish of sweets... perhaps Blondies?

That sounds good, Thanks Jen! Paul is going to pickup some cookies as well, so that should handle the sweets department.

I think we had a little too much food last month, so this month let's try assuming there will be 25 people attending, and further assume that only half of them will have one serving of whatever you're bringing. So I would guess a dozen cookies or a dozen brownies/blondies.

We'll try that as a guideline for how much food to make/bring and see how that works, and revise as necessary.

Thanks, Judi! Amy and I should be able to give you a ride to the meeting as well.

I make a pretty good banana bread with chocolate chips. I can make some if you'd like. If an entree is needed, I can make chicken fried rice.

Thanks for the offer Arlene, but at this point, I think we're good to go on food for this month.

But both of those things sound delicious, so let's keep them in mind for a future meeting (perhaps next month's at Eugen and Roxanna's in Northern Virginia?).
