A/V volunteers for meetings?
There has been a suggestion made to video the speakers/topics at the meetings and have them hosted on the site for folks to be able to virtually enjoy our meetings if they are unable to attend in person.
We can handle the posting, but would there be someone out there with some knowledge willing to do the recording and editing to make this happen?

It is not murder if you're killing snails.

We have a tripod and a Panasonic PV-DV401D that can record to miniDV tapes. It's not super high quality or high resolution, but if someone wants to try it, I'll bring it to the next meeting. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get better video from your average camera phone these days, LOL.
Please note that I have no will to transfer the video or edit it - sorry, but I really don't have that kind of time (it's a PITA, in my experience, because you plug the thing into the computer and then hit play - so 30 minutes of video takes 30 minutes to transfer). But like I said, if no one can come up with any better, I'll bring it.

I also have an old camcorder that records to Hi8 tapes. I believe it has a firewire connection, but it's probably close to real-time transfer. Same deal as Chris on the editing bit, but if you generate a streamable file (or upload it to Youtube, etc), I'm more than happy to do what it takes to post it up on our website.
Doesn't anyone have a Flip that can be used? We don't need real high quality video. The quality fromj a Flip is fine, I think, and it is very easy to upload to the Flip site, or any other.
Anyone can use them. They're easy to edit. They only cost about $125. How much does GWAPA have?

Going a bit off-topic here...
I'm sure this is going to sound like an "old guy" rant, but this is exactly why I have a love-hate relationship with technology. I love it because it's always getting better, and able to do new and exciting things ("better, faster, stronger..." - OK, now I'm really dating myself for anyone who gets the reference). I hate it, though, because whenever you buy a piece of technology, its obsolete in six months, and you feel like a dork when you bring it out that old tape-based camcorder that is "sooo last year".
Not to mention the price decreases - I paid close to $700 for that Panasonic camcorder when I bought it in 2001. Now I can get something 5 times better for one fifth the price. Grrr. Makes me feel stupid for spending any money on technology. Makes you want to wait until next year, when I'm sure someone will have a $50 camera that will record 1080p hidef video onto terabyte SD cards.
OK, geezer rant over.
John, the Flip looks very cool; thanks for the link.
