New Auction Rule - One Bag Per Species
New Auction Rule - One Bag Per Species
After reviewing member input via the survey, the board would like to implement the following rule for the auction, starting in January 2009:
- Please do not bring more than 1 bag per species of plant. If multiple bags are brought by a single seller, the auctioneer reserves the right to lump them together into a single sale.
If multiple people bring the same species, that's okay, but several members have asked us to try and shorten the length of the auction, so this is our first attempt at doing so.
Thank you for helping us improve our auction!

hey Chris, even though that would help shorten the leght of the auction, don't you think that possibly more than one person might want to get the same thing...? i been a member for only a few months and several times i wished there was more of sometihng......i don't know i guess unless is you know, spoken for to pick up at the auction it will be imposible to get it

Damian, we did weigh that, and it'll still be possible that the same thing could appear multiple times in the auction if two different people each brought a bag of it. This is by no means a policy set in stone, but a first step to see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't, we'll change direction, and try something else.

We hope more than one person wants it. Thats why we have an auction! If you want it, bid--that's better for the club, and better for the person who is selling the plant.
I think the proposed change may be a big help.

Can always offer plants for sale on this and other forums. Then you could deliver them to the meetings.

Exactly, Michael. We're not trying to stop the flow of plants in GWAPA. That's one of the things that makes this club great. But, the length of the auction was the #1 complaint in this years' survey responses, so we just want to try and make a good thing more manageable and enjoyable. I do appreciate the feedback, however.

I'm not a person who handles change well, so my first thought was "Oh no! Don't do that! It's not fair!" (as my 8 year old would say )
But I appreciate the position the board is in, because there is no easy way to handle this. I certainly don't know what suggestion I would offer instead. So I figure we give it a try, and if it really just plain doesn't work, we can certainly try something else.

thats what i ment to say in my second reply, im also against changes but if they are for better then i just need to get used to it. so yup, if we can be more specific as far as what we are planning to bring that can help pre-arrange purchases. in the other hand, as an employee of a pet shop i have an idea of what prices are around in most items and if we are going to bet and bet and bet just to get whatever that defeats the purpose of the club "in my opinion" because this is to enjoy not to abuse of the money that others might not have(basicly selling something way mroe spensive than is supposed to be). trust me, i seen that one too many times at others clubs which i will not mention...maddog10 wrote:Can always offer plants for sale on this and other forums.
