GWAPA Board Nominations, Elections...

Post by krisw »

It's that time of year again where GWAPA board seats are up for grabs to anyone willing to donate their time and effort to make the club even better. We've had a lot of club growth over the last couple of years, which proves that GWAPA must be doing something right. Hopefully it will also allow some fresh perspectives and ideas to come into the club leadership via those new members. The board consists of five positions:

President
Currently held by Kris Weinhold, this position is ultimately responsible for providing leadership and direction for the club. Kris is undecided on running.

Vice President
Currently held by Jeff Ucciardo, this position assists the president, and should be able to spearhead some tasks on their own. Jeff will run again.

Corresponding Secretary
Currently held by Dave Williams, this person is responsible for contacting vendors, groups, and other organizations in order to arrange discounts, donations, group orders, and events. Dave will run again.

Recording Secretary
Currently held by Aaron Talbot, this person is responsible for taking meeting notes/pictures, and ensuring that they are posted to the membership in a timely fashion. Aaron will not run again.

Treasurer
Currently held by Sean Murphy, this person manages the club finances. Sean will run again.

As you can see, we have at least one position that has to be filled. I would also encourage you to nominate yourself (or others) for other positions if you feel driven to hold a leadership role in the club. We'll hold nominations through October, with elections at the Nov/Dec meeting.

If you would like to be nominated for something, speak up. Someone will gladly nominate you. When Kris says, will run again, that means in our internal discussions we have said that, yes, we would like to continue in our current office if nominated. I think we should have a public nomination and second of anyone so inclined.

I nominate;
Kris Weinhold for President
Jeff Ucciardo for VP,
Dave Williams for CorSec.

Cavan, Rob, Judi, any of you guys interested in Rec Sec? You would be taking notes, maybe pictures, of the meeting to help Kris put up event notes on the website. Not that bad of a job.

And as Sean mentioned, it's okay to nominate other people for the same position. That'll force the nominees to earn your vote! ;-)

It's not too late to nominate someone else or yourself for an office.

Please don't feel as though you need to be an expert in planted aquariums in order to serve on the Board. All it takes is a willing spirit, a passion for this hobby and this club and a little bit of your free time.

One of the hardest things to do in a club is get people to run. Most people figure they would not have a lot to offer but they would be wrong.
It does not take someone with a degree or even someone with the knowledge of plants. What it takes is someone with the dedication and desire to see the club succeed and grow. This is your chance to put your stamp on the future of the club. You can look back someday and say, " I did that"

Pat's exactly right. 2009 should be another great year for GWAPA. It's possible that we could hit 100 members this year. We'd like to be involved with Aquafest 2009, and will really need driven individuals to help out with that. We could stand to elicit more sponsors for our club. Are you willing to write and send 50 letters to corporations? We could use you. How about workshops to expose more folks to club? All it takes is someone who can pick up the phone, and work out the details. Can you take notes at a meeting, and type them up in Microsoft Word? You're perfect. And finally, do you think the current board members are doing it all wrong? Well, help us learn from our mistakes and give us some direction!
