Adopt a Stream?

There is a Potomac Watershed cleanup in April and I wanted to see if there was any interest in participating? I could see us adopting a small marshy area and re-planting it with native aquatics and bog plants. Some of these could be grown in our aquariums, such as val, cabomba and pogostemon. We could also monitor the health of the area to see if it is improving.

I might be able to have a speaker from the Water & Soil Board or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to help explain why this is important.

This sounds like a great idea, Rick! Of course, to adopt an area, we'll want to make sure that a number of folks from the club are interested in pursuing this.

If you are interested in at least hearing more about this, please respond in this thread so we can gauge interest.

I think we could participate in whatever way we want. I think this particular project is a trash pick up, but could allow us to talk with people who could steer us in the direction of our choosing. Such as aquatic plant survey trips. Some of these parks don't know what animals or plants inhabit their boundarys so we could help them in cataloging. I think seeing plants and animals in their natural setting will help us understand ours and their place in things.

I can dig around for more information and let you know.
