I voted for both... but I have to be honest... probably what made the biggest impact on me was seeing the different tanks people have setup, live and in person. that would go away with a hall kind of meeting. the more I think about it, the more I say it should stay the same.

I voted to keep it as it is, at least for the time being. It's true we can't rely on the numbers dwindling in the summer. That's why we decided to start discussing this now so we can have a plan if we need to make a change.

Like Jeff I also have a "party room" I could probably reserve when everyone comes to my condo. 25 would probably be about the max I could fit in my place though.

Perhaps I'm being a bit nostalgic. Ultimately, I think there's going to have to be some sort of meeting hall / home compromise.

GWAPA could buy me a really big house and I would host every meeting, seems like a fair deal to me! :D

Sure, but no guarantees on what the building material will be. I'm thinking cardboard might be doable...

I would miss the current venue, because seeing other folks aquariums is the biggest thrill for me, but it seems a change is needed.
I could not comfortably host more than 20 or so. That's with guests pulling up a seat on the floor too.

How about a cover charge? That way only the really interested people will turn out.
I'm grasping for straws here. Just trying to help out. I share everyone's concerns.

My heart says vote to keep it the same. I'm conflicted on this topic. Some good ideas posted so far, except for mine maybe.

Joe, I think we all share in the same dilemma, which is exactly why we're not planning on making a concrete decision on this matter for at least 2 months. We want everyone's input, and all ideas put forth, and then, we can figure out what's best for the future of the club. We have a fantastic arrangement available to us at the facility in Silver Spring, MD, but also recognize that their space could be filled by another occupant if we take to long to decide one way or the other. Of course, if it turns out that a separate facility isn't the way for us to go, so be it.

Kris,
Did the last meeting draw more people because it was in VA?

In other words do we have a larger concentration of members in any one area that will trigger a bloom of extra people at any one meeting.

Do we have a figure for how many people attend/average?

Where do the majority of are member live.

Hi Kevin,

I don't believe so, as the January meeting at Dave's house in Mt. Airy MD drew nearly the same number of people, and is no where near the Virginia line.

Using 2007-2008 years, here's the geographic breakdown of members by location:

DC: 5
MD: 42
VA: 36
NJ: 1
PA: 4
OTHER: 5 (people we don't have a mailing address in the system, but I think the split is 3/2 MD/VA)
