I sent Rob a PM :)

There's lots of snakeheads near Mt. Vernon at the moment. Loads of little ones have hatched and the babies ball up around the parents (kind of like bullheads).

I'll make sure to bring my field photo tank. It would be great to get photos of a baby snakehead!

Bob, is this enough info for you, or would you like to poll folks at the meeting on Saturday, and then we can start making firm plans?

Thanks, Kris. This is enough. Just about everyone who responded wants to go on the Potomac River trip, so the Potomac River trip it will be. Sorry for not posting here sooner, but I got sidetracked onto other things.

One of the GWAPA members who read the post pm'ed me with a couple of other sites to add to the list. I'll check the tide tables and post here with a meeting place and time for our August 9th Potomac River Great Snakehead Hunt III!

Sounds fantastic! Everyone, get your fish licenses if you don't have them already! Even if you're just along for the ride, if there's a chance you might be holding a bucket, net, pole, etc, you probably want a fish license if we're asked. This is correct, right Bob? Or can we have bystanders without licenses around?

I unfortunately now have other obligations for this date as I had penciled it in on the wrong date apparently.

Thanks
Rob

What other supplies would we need? This will be my first fish expedition. Will we discuss it at the meeting Sat?

Yes. All who plan to attend should have a fishing lisence.

Re: the date, it's set for August 9, which is the original date we planned on.

Bridget, basically, you should plan to either wear waders or get wet. Old sneakers or boots will suffice. (Don't wade barefoot.) I'm planning to come to the meeting tomorrow, so we can talk there. I'll bring a large seine or two. If anyone else could bring a seine, that would help, too. Other than that, you'll need a colleting bucket or a cooler/styro with plastic bags if you plan to bring anything home.

Just a thought~I am interested in going on the trip. I'm not sure how to get a license. Can it be done online? I'm reallly just interested in going out for the fun, and not at all interested in catching the fish, so still get a license? I mean there's no way that I'm going to catch fish or bring them home.

Well, I think the odds are against us getting checked for a lisence. I don't think I've ever even seen a game warden. But I'd still have to advise you to get one. If you're part of a group that's seining, then it might be up to the game warden to decide whether you're part of the group or not. Plus, if you have a lisence, then you won't have any reservations about handling fish or equipment.

You can get one for a short time period, rather than the whole season. And you can buy one on line. Here's the link:
