Food for January meeting

Post by chris_todd »

OK, folks, the first meeting of 2011 is next Saturday at Ghazanfar's house, so it's time to start talking about food (one of my favorite past times, LOL).

To help entice the everyone to make the trip (which, despite protestations to the contrary is not in the middle of nowhere, it's just slightly West of there; just don't make the right turn at Albuquerque), I was thinking about making Carolina pulled pork barbecue, and seeing if I can convince Amy to bake some home made rolls. If we have any muslims in the club that would prefer I do pulled chicken instead, PM me and I can do that instead. Or heck, maybe I'll do both. :)

So that should satisfy the meatatarians, can someone step up with something for the vegetarians, fruititarians, and dessertitarians? :-)

A refresher for anyone who forgot over the holidays, or anyone who's new to the club: we have about a $40 budget per meeting for food, so we're not asking for donations. So if you spend money making food or buying food, by all means, ask for reimbursement. We had good success last year with a combination of purchased food and prepared food, so making food is certainly not a requirement for contributing. Picking up a box of cookies or cupcakes at your favorite bakery is always acceptable!

I'm planning on making some baked. Not sure what yet, but definitely, something sweet. Maybe a nice "mile high" apple pie.

I can bring some diet soda, i.e. sprite or 7-up, something that is caffiene and sugar free. That's about my only dietary requirement. Don't get me wrong, I like sweets, just not in my drinks.

I will also be bringing some plants. I should be able to post a list Friday evening.

Also, I'm coming from Catonsville, which is just outside 695 on the west side, for those that didn't know. So if anyone near by would like to share a ride PM me today or tomorrow. Ellicott City and Columbia are on the way. Leaving early is not a problem.

Joe, Arlene, and Jim, thanks!

I think Ghazanfar will be taking a stab at something with vegetables, and I'll be adding coleslaw to go with the BBQ pork.

If anyone else wants to bring something, feel free, though I think we have all the basics covered at this point. Thanks, everyone!
