Kevin Epps in CCA and I have been trying to get together for a trip out to Pennyfield Lock on the C&O Canal off River Road North of Potomac.

We're going to be looking for Longear sunfish, which I've caught at this site many times before. Collecting would be with fishing line and small hooks (dipnetting and seining aren't allowed.)

These are introduced into the Potomac drainage and reach a length of about 5 inches. They're territorial and aggressive, like Central American Cichlids. Males get really colorful during spawning season and dig a spawning nest in the substrate, which is disruptive to a planted tank, is interesting to see.
We haven't set a time yet, but I wanted to see if there was any interest in the groups.
You would need a Maryland fishing license,

Let me know if you'd like to attend.

You never know what you're going to find, or where you're going to find it. So keep looking.
