Greetings,
I just wanted to give everyone a quick update. While there is something to be said for top-of-the-line and name-brand, I know that others like myself operate on a budget and off-brand does not necessarily mean lacking in quality as there are some great choices in off-brand. In any case, I wanted to let you know that Deep Blue Professional, after some feedback from folks like me, have released the EDGE 57 RIMLESS PLANT TANK and 75 EDGE RIMLESS PLANT TANK (with opti-pure [low iron] glass and tempered glass on front and end panels) as a spin-off to their reef-ready tanks. In addition, Deep Blue Professional has a nice and growing line-up of rimless tanks (tempered Front, Back, Bottom, End Panels):
ADB11441 DB 2.2GAL RIMLESS CUBE TANK 8X8X8 N-T / N-T / N-T / N-T
ADB11445 DB 3-TANK RIMLESS CUBE SET N-T / N-T / N-T / N-T
ADB13057 DB EDGE 57RR RIMLESS TANK 36X18X20 T / N-T / T / T
ADB13058 DB EDGE 57 RIMLESS PLANT TANK 36X18X20 T / N-T / N-T / T
ADB13060 DB EDGE CUBE RR RIMLESS TANK 24X24X24 N-T / N-T / N-T / N-T
ADB13075 DB EDGE 75RR RIMLESS TANK 48X18X20 T / N-T / T / T
ADB13076 DB EDGE 75 RIMLESS PLANT TANK 48X18X20 T / N-T / N-T / T
ADB13080 DB EDGE 80RR RIMLESS FRAG TANK 48X24X16 T / N-T / T / T
ADB13630 DB 30 RR RIMLESS MINI FRAG TANK 24X24X12 N-T / N-T / T / N-T
ADB13660 DB 60 RR RIMLESS FRAG TANK 48X24X12 N-T / N-T / T / N-T
ADB13680 DB 80 RR RIMLESS FRAG TANK 48X24X16 N-T / N-T / T / N-T
In addition, I should note that House of Tropicals (Glen Burine, MD) has some some great rimless tanks (DB 3-Tanks, DB EDGE-75 Reef-Ready, and various Mr. Aquas including a 25x25x25 Rimless Cube), a whole range of stunning dutch riparium-style aquariums with rock-face and in-built water systems for beautiful enclosed riparium systems (with stands should you wish). Anyway, I asked the owners to look into pricing for the EDGE 57 & 75 PLANT TANKS. I thought I would share since I encouraged the folks at Deep Blue to look into the Planted Tank market.

PS: I imagine the core differences between the reef-ready and the plant tanks will be absence of overflow skimmers, pre-drilled bottoms, and it seems use of tempered glass... though I will know more when I see them first hand (as I have a feeling HoT will probably order one as they have really been expanding their rimless and riparium tanks and equipment as well (I saw some Sera products).

It looks like they use black silicone. I never understood that myself. Why get rid of the ugly black trim just to add black silicone as another distraction?
As a side note, I own a Mr. Aqua 12" cube and it's quite nice.

Aaron,
I definitely agree. I wonder as to the reason? Personally, I do kinda' like the black trim, but in the hobby at large clear would the first choice in terms of marketing in the event you only product one tank option. What I do like is the low iron glass which is a nice plus... and, of course, cost.
I'll find my emails with DB and write to ask about their choice of black trim ... it's a good question.

Please let us know. I'm interested in the price point on the 75 gallon tank, also what is the warranty period?Tyger wrote:Aaron,

I've been wanting an ADA 120-P for the longest time (should have gotten one a while back), but it comes close to $1k once you get it crated and shipped via freight. Ouch!

The usual reason for black silicone is that it doesn't show the voids in the silicone bead that would result in returns for visual defects even if there were no leaks.
It's very had to avoid bubbles.

Another reason behind using black silicon is to prevent algae getting in the silicone. In Europe, they use black silicone nowadays, but when I was a kid there, they only used transparent silicone. It only happened once that a tank (rimless, of course) of mine got a leak through the silicone. It was also my oldest tank with 10 plus years. I don't think it was the algae to blame though.

I stopped in the store. EDGE-75 Reef is $329.98. I see 3 of EDGE-75 in the back of store right now without RR (no drillling or plumbing) for 319.98 ($10 less). I EDGE-57 Reef is $279.98 was $257.98, but I do not have a hard price on non-ER.

Those are some sweet prices. I like the 80 gallon Frag tank dimensions the best now that I look at it again. 48 x 24 x 16. I wonder how much that bad boy is?
Re: Aquarium News - Rimless
Well, I wanted to follow-up with a quick update. I visited House of Tropicals on the way to the post office, as the local post office did not have right sized boxes for plants I sent out today, and I wanted to follow-up with some news on rimless. I noticed that they have the new Deep Blue Small Rimless Cubes (2 of the 12x12x12; 1 of the 10x10x10; 1 of what I think was 6x6x6). In addition, I love the dutch riparium-style aquariums ranging from large to small all with stands (Price from $379.00 for 12x12x24 to $1600 for 48x24x28). I'll see about getting a couple of pictures up.
