It's official--2011 is "The Year of Dutch"

Post by DonkeyFish »

In a nail-biter of a finish, you voted and by JUST ONE VOTE this year the focus and annual aquascaping contest will be on the Dutch style!

So break out your clogs and start gathering stem plants folks! No triad rock formations or mystical root jungles here! ;l

Other than Ghazanfar, is anyone out there excited and ready with their gameplan?

that depends... are rocks and wood not allowed to show at all in Dutch style? Do I have to yank out my 50 lb rocks and find a way to keep the big branches wet somewhere else?

Cool, even though I voted for Nature Aquarium Style, this will give me a good excuse to try and aquascape my "farm tank."

I saw a picture of a dutch tank recently, I can't recall where, but there was a piece of driftwood in it. :o

I'm going to have a piece of drift wood in my tank to help elevate some of my plants.

So in reading the article, are we really restricted to no more than 12 plants, or is this dependent on the size of the tank?

Now thinking about it, I think we should really have a speaker to talk about Dutch tanks in more detail and also have a discussion of what judges are looking for and have guidelines.

Arlene :D, who though voted for Nature style, is very excited about doing Dutch and looks forward to this challenge and learning a lot in the next few months!!!

In 2002 there was a very good speaker at the AGA convention on Dutch tanks. If someone has that DVD, maybe you can watch it at a meeting.

Are there going to be rules or suggestions to follow? Like uniform tank size and such?
Francine
Once you go Dutch you can't stop trimming.
