They didn't say that they tried tissue culture.

With the few plants they had left, I don't think they were willing to take the risk. Although Kew now has 20 plus plants in their collection, I do think it's time to provide 1 or 2 plants to a TC lab.

I'm thinking about trying to obtain some seed on behalf of my contacts with the U. S. Botanic Garden and Longwood (with a few for myself as a "handling charge"). :D

Cavan; any chance you can work on your Smithsonian contacts?

Jim they can start the tissue culture with seeds, in fact that is probably the easiest way to start a culture.

You mean "ghazanfar" can start the tissue culture with seeds.
