Tissue Culture Workshop

Post by Ghazanfar Ghori »

WHAT:
At the AGA Convention, Dr. Kane had a really intriguing talk on tissue culture, and how you can do it yourself at home to propagate Aquatic plants. The same techniques can be used to propagate almost any other plant too - your favorite Begonia, Orchid or African Violet. This is how Tropica propagates most of their plants for aquarium use. I've been working with Kris, Francine and Dr. Carol M. Stiff, PhD of Kitchen Culture Kits, Inc. to have a Tissue Culture Workshop here in the DC Metro area. Dr. Carol M. Stiff is the owner of Kitchen Tissue Culture and has really pioneered the entire 'Kitchen Tissue Culture' process.

More information here:
http://www.kitchencultureeducation.org/ ... OneDay.htm

WHEN:
Dr. Carol M. Stiff will be here to give us a workshop on Kitchen Tissue Culture in all day HANDS ON event on April 4th 2009. The workshop will be from 9 AM - 5 PM.

WHERE:
We've reserved the Saddlebrook Park Police Headquarters in Silver Spring, MD (where CCA has their meetings) for this event.

COST:
The cost to attend will be about $99. This cost includes EVERYTHING. All materials, equipment, media etc that you'll need for the workshop and then some. We're actively working on actually bringing that cost down by persuing local grants and soliciting sponsorship and hopefully will be able to cut it down a little.

LIMITED SEATING:
Attendance is LIMITED to 20 people. There is tremendous interest in a DC Area Tissue Culture workshop and GWAPA gets the first shot at those 20 seats. Any unfilled seats will then be opened up to the Orchid & Carnivorous plant groups, and will probably be filled in quickly.

HOW DO I SIGN UP:
For those who want to register for the DC or Las Vegas workshops before they are made public, go to: http://www.hometissueculture.org/htcgworkshops.htm

Members of the HTCG get a discount. Prices could change but will probably just give out free samples at the workshop to compensate..................carol

Count me in tentatively. If I can't make it, I'm sure one of those orchid geeks will be glad to have my spot.

This is the kind of thing that fascinates me! 'Dr. G' (Ghazanfar) briefly explained to me how this works. I do not think I will be able to make it to the workshop though. This will be a great new way to get plants into the hobby.
