The trip is about 2 weeks away. I don't know if you have your itinerary planned yet, but if you happen go to the Rainbow River in Marion County, could you grab some Crypts?

The Rainbow River is located in the southwest corner of Marion County, about 20 miles southwest of Ocala, 100 miles northwest of Orlando and 100 miles north of the Tampa Bay area.

Cheers.

Jim,

I think it's actually illegal to take Crypts from that river. :(

Aaron;

For some odd reason that sounds strangly familiar. Let's see, they're an invasive species, you can collect them and destroy them on-site, but you can't collect them and transport them out of state where they won't survive a freezing winter for fear of them possibly escaping, adapting and spreading and invading species to the new location.

Damn! That sounds like a regulation I would have written. :mrgreen:

What you need, is a letter from someone in USDA giving you authority to collect them for an eradication study. Now if I only knew someone in the Ag. Research Service or on the Invasive Species Council that could give me some letterhead... :twisted:

Cheers.

So, when and where would everyone like to meet on Thursday? It'll have to be somewhere where we can park our cars for the days we're gone.

Ghazanfar - that's great that you can bring one. Always good to know water parameters when trying to breed something "exotic" from Florida.

Regarding where to meet - I'm pretty certain we can use any park & ride ride lot since you are able to use them to take public transportation to the Airports and Union Station. How'd they know we weren't a bunch of friends flying together to some place exotic. There is a covered park and ride near my house (Herndon Monroe) where we park cars during snow storms - they've never given us a problem. I've used it for trips to NYC via Amtrak.

The other question is when to meet - I googled a trip to Gainesville - its twelve hours travel time. It would also be nice to depart the Metro area before the rush hour even though we will soon be going against the rush hour traffic. I'd propose meeting at 0600 hrs - that would mean some would probably have to hit the road to the rendezvous point much earlier (0500 or before).

I want to let everyone know I have a refrig/cooler unit for my van. Bring what you want to stock it. I also have two small two way radios we can try to use between the two vehicles we are taking down or is it better to just use cellphones?

I'm fine with meeting at the park and ride, so long as you don't feel there's a security issue with the car, and that we won't get towed. I agree that we want to get out before rush hour gets too bad. I'm fine with the 0600 departure.
