How many bags do you think I would need for the tank dimensions? I am also going to want to place a layer of peat on the bottom.

You could fill at least 2 40G tanks with one bag of Soilmaster. :-)

ok Cristy get me one bag and we will take that amount off the bulb order. Thanks for the offer. So I guess we now have a substrate. Do I need any additional items or should we be good with peat and soilmaster?

Thanks
Rob

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but isn't Soilmaster just baked clay? I think you need to add something to it -- perhaps Flourish tabs?

Soilmaster is basically baked clay, yet, but so is Flourite. Flourish tabs are good additions, but if you're dosing the water column, the nutrients will be absorbed that way, and made available to the root. Any number of ways to set it up.

Well, when I called last week they had some, but I went up there today and they're out. :( I asked them to order a few bags and they will call when it comes in.

Will it come in before Saturday, or should I look for a backup plan for the tank?

Thanks
Rob

Sorry, but I'm sure it won't be in by Saturday. Do you still want a bag even if you get it later?

I guess so, I will figure something out with it. So I guess the floor is reopened on substrate suggestions. Need some thoughts.

Thanks
