Interesting meeting

The Feb 20th trip to the USDA sounds interesting. Who arranged it? It sounds like something that isn't normally available to the general public. Also, how does it relate to aquatic gardening?

Rick arranged it! He's good at that.
It's not directly related to aquatic gardening. I think
the idea was to see the tissue culture lab - maybe try
kitchen tissue cultures of aquatic plants later
as a GWAPA project.

Since tissue culture was part of my life in my lab days, the USDA trip sounds very interesting.

But I never tried any DIY kitchen counter work, I'm afraid the work was pretty high tech. I have not done any open counter work since school - before most of this crowd was born.

I don't think the kitchen culture is going to mass produce plants. I do think that seeing the plants go from tiny specks to little spiky specks to having roots and leaves would be interesting. I think the failure rate would be high. The system use your microwave to sterlize the culture and plastic covered cardboard box as your hood. Looks interesting, check out the website for more info. If there is enough interest we could do a study group. I was thinking to have this as a workshop at the AGA as well.
