We're planning a scouting trip this Saturday, to check out potential new locations for the Catfish Convention collecting trip this Fall.
Locations include the Shenandoah River at Route 7 in Purcelville, Goose Creek at the golf course in Leesburg, and, possibly, Difficult Run off Route 193.
I'll probably set the time for earlier in the day, say 9:30 or 10:00 a.m. If you plan to collect, you'd need a Virginia state fishing license (available on line.)
Since it's a catfish convention, we'll be looking for small madtom catfish, and whatever else we can find. Rainbow darters are reputed to be in the area as well, although I've never collected at these sites and don't know what we'll find.
I'll send out another notice later in the week as things firm up.

Re: Catfish Convention Collecting Scouting Trip this weekend
I haven't been to any of them yet, Arlene. I think we might find madtoms and maybe rainbow darters, especially farther out.
We like our current site just fine. It's loaded with madtoms and roanoke darters. However, it's 2 1/2 hours away from the Convention site, which makes for a long, possibly expensive, bus ride.
So if we can find a suitable location in Leesburg/Purcelville, we could cut the travel time down considerably.
