They should also enjoy duckweed. I use my tank of goldfish as a duckweed disposal area plus it gives them something to do to occupy their time.

I have had good luck keeping goldfish with regular Val and some crypts. Anything that is free floating or easily uprooted like many of the mosses the goldfish will try to eat. To keep them from uprooting plants you could use some larger gravel like flat river stone on top of the substrate to keep th...

I am glad that you and Lauren are safely back in country.

And yes I am already planning on going on at least one of the fish collecting trips in August 2008. What else I am going to do with the equipment I already bought and now have laying around the condo.

As a frame of reference Iquitos is about 620 miles NNE of Lima so the fish collecting area should be fine. I believe that Kris may be somewhere near Machu Pichu which is closer to the earthquake zone. Machu Picchu is about 345 miles SE of Lima. The city that has flight service from Lima to the Machu...

My favorite quote from the article: The new species was discovered from the Rio Pure in Colombia and two creeks draining into the Rio Amazonas near Iquitos in Peru. Like other members of the genus, this species is small, with most of the type specimens collected measuring just under 4cm long. I wond...

When I said any sized flake food I meant it can be used in the feeder and was not thinking about the size of the fish you are feeding. :| I have crushed up all the flake food I use in my fish room. We (when I say we I mean all us fish people) do it for our fish. By all means provide the crushed up f...

I use the Penn Plax Daily Double feeder that runs on one AA battery I depart for long trips. You can place any sized flake food into the drum and can adjust the amount that will be fed to the fish twice a day.
