Re: Mold in my micros:
Another option would be to add 25mL Excel to every liter of trace stock solution but IME, it is less effective over time and I have been adding about 1/4 tsp each ascorbic acid and potassium Sorbate to a liter of solution. The actual recommended amount mentioned in James' blog is 0.5g, E300 Ascorbic...

Re: Mold in my micros:
I use distilled water for trace solutions because PO4 levels are reported to be around 3ppm in our DC tap water. Ascorbic Acid to keep the solutions pH at 6 or less, the chelators used are a lot more stable in a solution with a pH of 6 or less. Though it may inhibit some mold, it should keep iron fr...

Re: Blue Green Algae - need help
I'm dosing closer to 7.2 ppm NO3 and 0.8 ppm PO4, daily. At these levels I worry NO3 levels might shock any new arrivals like Caridina multidentata. I should get a test kit but some Yamato shrimp would also tell me if levels are too high. Re: Glass cap for tank?
Houses use to have transoms above the interior doors. Something like that often measures, 12" x 29" framed.

Re: Glass cap for tank?
One of those cold frame diy's using old windows would be fantastic, if that's what you're thinking.
It should look very cool. You need an interesting way to frame it to open - a window that size would be unique.

Re: February Meeting
If GWAPA needs a location for the August meeting, the inside work at our house should be ending by the end of June. :D Kay and I can see about having a meeting here in DC and for you to be flapping your gums, it would be worth our having a meeting. So, here in our home could be an option, if you like.

Moss ID.
Would anyone venture a guess as to what kind of moss this is in my tank?
Sorry if the picture quality isn't the best.

Re: Aquarium "Life Hacks"
Subject: Aquarium "Life Hacks" IIRC, cyanoacryilate glues immediately plasticize balsa wood and are accelerated by moisture in doing that. [referencing my RC sailplane neurons...) Jim, I found a reference to Shechems' Flourish Glue made from the same cyanoacryilate. Of course their produc...

Re: February Meeting
Will Sam be offering to talk again, when the weather is nice and we can count on more people making it to the meeting?
