Will Purigen reduce needed frequency of water changes?

Hi, QUESTION (freshwater): fish wastes generate ammonia, and beneficial bacteria convert that to NO3, then nitrate. If plants consume (wild guess) 5% of the NO2, I need water changes to dilute/remove the remaining 95%. If PURIGEN adsorbs (and/or absorbs) 90% (again guessing) of the fish wastes, then...

Just paid the $20 to join, is there a next step?

Just paid the $20 to join, is there a next step? Don't know if someone needs to do something or it just takes a while for it to assimilate
thanks

Breeding platies

1) Tried to upload tank photos but couldn't. But: anyone know if a clear plastic breeding trap measuring 7' x 3' x 3' tall in the breeding female area is big enough for a platy to feel comfortable to drop fry? I heard if they don't feel secure, they can withhold the fry. My platy breeding tank is a ...

@ free Severum in Petworth DC

These are probably too big for most aquascape scenarios, but I appreciate the Gwapa folks. Anyhow, two plain old green Severum, about 1 1/2 in long, body maybe 30% bigger than a quarter. The larger one does chase the smaller one kinda relentlessly, at least in my little 6 gal temporary tank. these a...

Best lighting for a 20 tall medium growth tank

Lighting Question: I’m planning a low maintenance, medium growth aquascaped tank - in a 20 tall, 24 x 12 x 16.. If needed, hopefully I can just use the liquid carbon enhancement. Or maybe I should aim for low/medium. Tropical Lagoon on Georgia Ave has recommended a dual tube T5 hood/fixture (only $6...

Re: Hi. Could use suggestions re buying aquascaping tank(s)

Thanks folks, Not saying I'm not going to change water. And it's going to be pretty easy with the new Python etc tubing systems. Wisdom about water has apparently changed since aeons ago when I last had fish, or perhaps I've just forgotten. It's fun seeing all the new technology - like the cycling b...

Hi. Could use suggestions re buying aquascaping tank(s)

Hi Hopefully will meet everyone in Jan. Many thanks to Jen for a great aquascaping demo at Cichlid Club!! I’m planning to get at least one 40 gal (36” x18 deep x 17 high) Petco tank for planted aquascaping. Any suggestions on kind of *moderately priced) filtration needed, given I’m hoping for a quie...
